Courtallam Waterfalls Closed for Bathing as Flash Floods Continue for Second Day
Authorities have banned tourists from bathing in all Courtallam waterfalls after flash floods continued for the second consecutive day due to heavy rainfall in the region, disappointing weekend visitors.

Tourists have been prohibited from bathing in all waterfalls at Courtallam after flash floods continued for the second consecutive day on Saturday due to persistent rainfall in the region. The Forest Department imposed the ban as a precautionary measure to ensure public safety amid rising water levels.
The restriction disappointed hundreds of tourists who had travelled to Courtallam during the weekend hoping to enjoy the famous waterfalls. Authorities urged visitors to cooperate with safety measures until the water flow returns to normal.
On Friday, the Courtallam region witnessed cloudy weather accompanied by intermittent drizzle. During the afternoon, the Five Falls experienced a sudden surge in water flow, prompting officials to temporarily suspend bathing activities. After water levels stabilised, tourists were allowed to resume bathing later in the day.
However, continuous rainfall across the Tenkasi district triggered fresh flash floods on Saturday, resulting in a significant increase in water flow across all major waterfalls in Courtallam. In response, the Forest Department imposed a complete ban on bathing at all waterfalls until conditions become safe.
Officials are closely monitoring rainfall and water levels and have advised tourists to follow safety instructions. The ban will remain in place until the floodwaters recede and authorities determine that the waterfalls are safe for public access.
